Pride month with a session on LGBTQ+ 🌈

Hello, this is Peatix PR.

We recently organized an in-house forum on LGBTQ+ which coincides with Pride Month in June 🏳️‍🌈

Pride Month is an annual celebration of the LGBTQ+ community spirit and a significant time for raising awareness of LGBTQ+ rights through a variety of events and activities around the world.

Peatix's event and community platform has developed a specific community guideline of 'welcoming diversity'. As a a service that brings together a diverse community, it opposes harming people based on one-sided views, as well as all forms of discrimination and inequality, hate speech and harassment based on race, sex, gender, physical and mental characteristics, language, religion, political or other opinions, creed, origin, property or status We are.

In addition to these guidelines on our platform, Peatix is also committed to ensuring that all Peaps (we call our members "Peaps"), including folks who identify as LGBTQ+, are able to work without discrimination within the company. We also make effort to  create an environment where all Peaps, can work without discrimination.

Welcoming diversity
Welcome different perspectives and ideas and value the diversity of our community. Diverse opinions allow for different perspectives on things. A community that values differences of opinion and discomfort and communicates them to each other is more resilient to change, and the connections between community members, consisting of operators and participants, are deeper.
Peatix says no to activities that hurt others or exclude different ideas based on one-sided perspectives.
Peatix opposes all discrimination and inequality, hate speech and harassment based on race, sex, gender, physical or mental characteristics, language, religion, political or other opinion, creed, origin, property or status.

This year's Pride Month event was focused on deepening understanding of LGBTQ+. This article presents some of the sessions!

This session was organized by the People & Culture (HR) team.
Participation was voluntary, but as it was held during the time when All Hands (company-wide meetings) are normally held, most Peaps gathered for the session!
The session was facilitated by bilingual Peaps, with the first half in English and the second half in Japanese.

At the beginning of the session, there was a presentation about the language of sexuality and significant events which led to  Pride Month celebrations around the world.

This was a valuable segment to prevent hurtful situations among loved ones as a result of poor understanding about correct language use, pronouns and LGBTQ+ histories that are rarely discussed.

Several Peaps who went to the Pride Parade (Festival) 2023 around the world shared their experiences. 'I'm glad I went!' and hearing first-hand voices of people who have been to the festival, it may have inspired them to think about what they can do to make a difference, like "I'll go next year" 🌈.

People who understand and support LGBTQ+ communities, whether or not they are directly involved, are called 'allies'. Even if you are not a party to the LGBTQ+ issue, it is important to imagine that there might be people around you , and think about how you can support and improve their living experiences. By promoting Allyship, we are able to create an environment where all Peaps can feel that the company is a safe place where they can express themselves freely and where diverse sexualities are respected.

Peatix also has an 'LGBT Support Group', established by LGBTQ+ identifying Peaps, with the premise that in addition to providing support to Peatix internally, the event and community platform will also provide support to the LGBTQ+ community outside the company. This group allows for better communication. For example, Peaps who have worked with event organisers on LGBTQ+ matters can clarify about language and specific issues they are yet to understand, or suggest events and organisations they can work alongside with as Peatix to conduct greater LGBTQ+ support.

There is an opinion box-like form called AMA (Ask Me Anything), in which Peaps can anonymously submit questions and requests to the HR team regarding LGBTQ+ support groups and other matters.

Peatix will continue to strive to be a company that is conducive and harmonious to work for people of all sexualities.
