I Only Have Eyes For You (英訳)
“I Only Have Eyes for You” is a romantic love song and jazz standard, introduced some 81 years ago in the 1935 Hollywood musical Dames. The song emphasizes the incredibly narrow focus a person may experience, particularly when in love. Thematically emphasizing the ‘you’ portion of the title, this exhibition highlights the works of five artists who energetically produce work within the medium of photography. We would like to highlight the contrasting perceptions of ‘you’ as seen in the artists’ work, and their differing takes on portraiture itself. While photographic portraiture encompasses the ‘I’ of the photographer along with the ‘you’ of the subject, as well as the ‘we’ as understood by the viewer, the photographs in this exhibition cannot be completely understood through the narrow classical understanding of ‘portraiture.’ “I Only Have Eyes for You” represents the various incarnations of ‘you’ among the artists’ unique approaches, through which they create representations that were heretofore unreachable within portraiture’s existing framework.
