【Introduction】
My name is Miyuki Zaman, and I am from Bangladesh.
Currently I am in my 4th year in university. Apart from attending classes and writing my graduation thesis, I have some free time during the week, so I wanted to utilize my time to learn and grow. At the right time, I got the opportunity to work in this company, Dooox.
【About Bangladesh】
So, any idea where is Bangladesh? First of all, I would like to share a little about my country. Bangladesh is a country located in the north-eastern part of South Asia, bordered by India from three sides, and by the Bay of Bengal in the south. Bangladesh is a riverine country, with around 800 rivers. Bangladesh has a land area that is less than half the size of Japan, but the population is more than 169 million, which is around 44 million more people than Japan. Therefore, the country is densely populated, especially Dhaka, the capital city, where I used to live with my family.
【About me】
Everyone asks me, why my name “Miyuki” is a Japanese name, but I am from Bangladesh. This is because my mother is Japanese, and my father is from Bangladesh. I was born in Japan, but my parents decided to move to Bangladesh when I was just five months old. I have a little brother who was born in Bangladesh. We have been living in Bangladesh for 20 years, until I decided to come to Japan to pursue higher education. I used to come to Japan during my school breaks to visit my mother’s family, but I had never lived in Japan. Coming to Japan to study was my first time actually living in Japan and now I have been in Japan for around 3 years.
【My education】
I am a Japanese national, studying abroad in Japan as an international student. I fall under the category of an international student because of my educational background. I went to an English-medium school in Dhaka, that follows the British curriculum of O’level and A’level examination. I studied in English and also learnt Bangla from kindergarten until highschool, but I did not study Japanese much. Thanks to my mother who always spoke to me in Japanese, now I can communicate in Japanese. In Bangladesh, we have a lot of television channels that come from India, and the contents are all in Hindi. I grew up watching Indian movies and so, I can understand Hindi as well. Additionally, when I entered univeristy, I had an interest in learning French, so I ended up taking French classes. I do understand a few words, but I have not studied until the conversational level.
【Conclusion】
It is my first time in a Japanese office environment, and I am very excited and nervous at the same time. I want to learn Japanese office culture; I want to polish my Japanese communication level, and I want to interact with Japanese people and share about our cultures from Bangladesh and Japan together. In Bangladesh, I have seen how these two countries share a good relationship, and how they respect each other. It's really impressive to know and learn about this, and I look forward to establishing this friendship here as well.
