Tips for Applying for a Green Card Photo
The most important requirement for applying an American green card photo requires that you attach a recent photo of yourself, either yourself with your visa number or your spouse and/or children. The photo must be taken within six months of your application and should show your current appearance. You do not have to submit a photo of your child or spouse who is already a legal resident or a citizen, but if you do your application will still count. If you are applying for either a husband or wife visa, then the photo requirement also applies to you. A second requirement is that you are at least 18 years old unless you qualify to receive an expedited greencard photo. Please note that this photo requirement does NOT apply to children under the age of sixteen. Some photos are required to be a minimum of 2 inches by 2 inches, but those requirements vary greatly. A list of acceptable photos can be found on the United States Visa and Immigration Services website. Please ensure you adhere to the requirements for each visa type. When applying for a green card photo, it is important to remember that it can take quite a while to receive your documents. It will take approximately three to four months for the United States authorities to review your application. Before you begin to submit your photo papers, please remember that if your submitting an application online, it may take up to eight weeks before you receive a response. If you are applying in person, you may have to wait as long as one month.
