初音ミク(Hatsune Miku), which is the loved one and wife of this guy. His nickname is Neo. He has those anime girls pictures on his desk and never stops working at the office. His mother tongue is Chinese but he also speaks English and Japanese fluently. Let us take a look into this genious engineer.
Worked as Freelance, Found More Freedom in Zenport
- Hi, Neo. How are ya? Have you found any good animes recently? If you have, please share that to me. All right, today I’d like to interview you. First, can you introduce yourself to me? (, I know you don’t want though? Haha)
Okay. Everyone calls me “Neo”, technically in Chinese characters 邱 顯傑. I was born in Taiwan and grew up there. I graduated from Yuan Ze University (元智大学) and studied information communication.
- Just out of curiosity, but why your English name is Neo?
Do you know the film, ”The Matrix” and the character called “Neo”, who wears black sunglasses? That’s the hint. When I was in high school, I wore a little bit black sunglasses. So my friends started calling me “Neo”, because at that time, “The Matrix” was very popular in Taiwan too.
- Okay, now I see it. You kind of look like that Neo. Well, let’s get back on the main line. What had you been doing before you joined Zenport?
All right, then, after my graduation, I soon came to Japan because I loved Japanese culture and started working as a freelance engineer, working remotely at home. I put emphasis on the freedom on my work so I didn’t want to go to the office to do the work that I can do even at home. I was hired by a Japanese web company and creating, consulting, fixing… doing whatever the company asked me about the web site.
- You always tell me you love freedom, don’t you. But wait, then why on earth did you joined Zenport, and come to the office everyday now?
Well, to tell you the truth, I wanted a job. I was asked to work in Yamaguchi for GMO, which sounds terrible, doesn’t it? Yamaguchi is one of the most rural areas in Japan as this picture shows. It’s like Wyoming in the US. And also, I was a little bit frustrated with the tedious job, and was feeling that I should join more unstable environment, and was seeking something new. It was at that time that I met Toshi. When I first went to Zenport office (it was sendee Inc. back then), there was only Toshi working there, which felt freedom that I was looking for. Actually, it's so odd, but now I feel freedom more in the office.
Better Communication with Computer and Human
- So you’re the second member here! I’m pretty sure we are one of the most free companies in the entire Japan. You even work out in the office. Well then, could you let us know your role in Zenport?
I am a full-stack engineer here, so I make and maintain the system and service from all the aspects.
- Sounds good! It looks like Zenport cannot exist, if you are not here. No Neo, No Zenport. haha Then what kind of person do you want to work with in Zenport?
Well, I guess someone who is smart both in IQ and EQ. Just being good at coding is not solely important. Rather, we need to be good at communicating with others, not being KY (Japanese term;someone who do not read between the lines). We each must have different opinions, which we should, but we also need to think of how other people think and feel.
- Yeah, that is very important point. Actually, one of our ZEN STYLE is "Embrace our differences" is based on the idea? Anyway, thank you so much Neo:)
Thanks. You can join my workout if you want:)
