Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence,LCFI
Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence (LCFI) is a research center based at the University of Cambridge, established in 2016. It focuses on exploring and addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by artificial intelligence (AI) in various contexts. The center brings together experts from multiple disciplines, including philosophy, cognitive science, computer science, and policy studies, to explore the long-term impacts of AI on society, culture, and ethics.
LCFI's mission is to ensure that AI develops in ways that are beneficial to humanity, considering not just technical progress but also ethical, social, and policy implications. It conducts research in areas such as AI ethics, AI governance, the future of work, AI and sustainability, and the societal impact of machine learning and autonomous systems.
Some of its notable projects involve understanding how AI can impact global challenges like climate change, inequality, and geopolitics, while also considering AI's role in enhancing human capacities and creativity. The center also engages with policymakers, industry leaders, and the public to foster a broad understanding of AI's implications.
