上智大学国際教養学部の2017年卒。父の転勤で1歳から7歳までアメリカのテキサス州、15歳から18歳までベトナムのホーチミン市で過ごす。現在は株式会社イーオンで常勤の英語教師/教務主任をしています。
7歳で帰国した当時は、自分がまだ幼かったのと、現在ほど日本では英語が重要視されてなかったことから、英語を忘れてしまうのではないかと周りに言われていたが、自分は英語が第一言語のように思えて大切で、帰国子女保持教室に通いながら英語を忘れるどころか伸ばそうと頑固に一生懸命でした。いつかはまた日本を出て飛び出すと夢を膨らませていました。
ただその期間は、ずっと公立校に通っていて、インターナショナルスクールなどには一切通わず、週一回の帰国子女保持教室と趣味の読書/洋画/作本などで補ったため、次の父の転勤が出るまでの９年間、相当頑固に英語を忘れないようにしたのだなと自分でも不思議に思います。支えてくれた家族と外国人先生方には本当に感謝でいっぱいです。
15歳で高校受験し、第一希望に受かるも父のベトナムへの転勤が決まり、向こうではインターナショナルスクールに通いながら毎日英語で過ごしていました。今まで頑張ってきて良かったと強く思えました。
子供の頃から憧れだった上智大学の国際教養学部に入学し、社会学・人類を全て英語で専攻した。日本と世界の国々の文化の違いや、日本に存在する社会の動きと世界との比較をしました。この社会に、異文化経験のある私たちからも、もっともっと新しい風と刺激を与えられるのではと思いました。日本人の若者からお年寄りまで、幅広い年齢の人たちに、もっともっと国際社会に興味を持ってもらいたい、そして自分の意見を臆することなく交わしてもらいたい、そう思いました。
現在は、株式会社イーオンのあるスクールで常勤の教務主任として、英語教師をしています。社会人の方々や学生さん、3歳からの幼児や小学生、中学生など、幅広い年齢の方に英語をたくさん教えています。英語が好きという方や苦手とする方、本当にレベルも様々だが、一人一人と向き合って、その方にわかりやすい１番の方法で教えられるよう努力しています。おかげさまで多くの生徒様から自分とのレッスンのご指名もいただけました。一人一人の目標や学習状況を常に追いながら、カウンセリングも行なうことも大事にしています。またオフィスで一緒に働く日本人スタッフと外国人スタッフの通訳や異文化理解にも力を入れてきました。
外国人の友人たちとの交流も多く、休日は彼らと過ごす時間を1番幸せに感じているが、1人でいる時間もすごく好きです。映画鑑賞のような受け身な趣味もあるが、アート/音楽のように内なる物を外へ描き出すことが本当に大好きです。きっと、英語や日本語などの「言語」では表現しきれない何かを表現したい自分がいるのだと思います。
シンガーソングライターもしており、いつかイギリスへ行き、ソングライティングコースを取りながら音楽を作りたいと思っています。
Graduate of Sophia University FLA class of 2017. I am Japanese and was born in Japan, but I have also lived in Houston TX of America, and Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam since my father worked there. I am fluent in English and Japanese, and am currently teaching English full time to adults and kids from 2018.
When I first came back to Japan at age 7, many people around me thought it would be difficult to remember/progress my English skills, since I was too young to come back, and the English education in Japan at the time wasn't as promising as it was now. But I didn't want to give myself up, and loved English so much like my first language. Though I went to a public school with no special English classes, I went to a returnee class every week, and kept doing my hobbies in English such as reading books/watching movies/writing stories. They all had helped me when I had the chance to move to Vietnam with my family, where I studied at an international school for my whole high school years. I am really thankful to my family and teachers who supported me so much.
As I studied in FLA of Sophia University (which was my dream school since I was in elementary school), I took Anthropology and Sociology courses to learn about comparative cultures between Japan and abroad. I have learned how unique and different the society was in Japan, and thought that there must be something I can do as a returnee to help show new perspectives and global insights. I wanted to help people in Japan ranging from young to elderlies, to see and understand different societies in the world, as well as global issues and topics. And I strongly wished for people in Japan to be able to speak out their minds without hesitations.
Now, I work as a full time head teacher in a school of AEON corporation. I teach from children to adults; babies from 3 years old, elementary/middle school students, high school/university students, parents, and business workers. There are different types of students, especially in terms of how much they love English, but I always make sure to communicate with each of them and find the best way possible to teach them. I am so grateful to know that there are many students who enjoyed my lessons and requested more under my name. I try to make time for each student's counseling, to better understand their goals and current English skills. I also put my effort in being the bridge between the Japanese staffs and foreign teachers, by translating and also understanding/sharing our different cultures we share.
During my weekends, I enjoy spending time with friends from overseas, but I also value the time to reflect on myself. I like gaining new insights by watching movies, but I also love creating art and music. It's probably because these mediums allow me to express myself, in which I cannot describe by words.
I am a singer-songwriter too, and I want to go to England someday to learn and make new music too.
